Mary Twala laid to rest in Soweto

Mahikeng: Member of the Order of Ikhamanga, 80 year old Mama Mary Twala was laid to rest on July 9 in Soweto, Gauteng.

She passed away on July 4 at the Parklane Private Hospital in Johannesburg.

Twala is well known for her work in the local entertainment industry as an actress. She featured in television and film productions including Sarafina, A Love in Africa and Taxi to Soweto, for which she won a Best Supporting Actress award. This includes some notable leading roles in Soul Buddyz, Ubizo, Yizo-Yizo and HlalaKwabafileyo, which won her a Best Comedy Performer award.

In 2011, she was nominated as the Best Supporting Actress at the Sixth Africa Movie Academy Awards. South Africa as a nation has lost an icon, she will be dearly remembered. Condolence poured in from many parts of society.
